The Best Rental Car for a Beverly Hills Business Trip

Most of our weekday rentals are business travelers in for a Tuesday-to-Thursday or a full week, staying somewhere along the Wilshire corridor or in West Hollywood, and spending eight hours a day in meetings and the other eight at dinner. The wrong rental car turns valet into an exercise; the right one disappears.
Here are the four cars we recommend most often, in the order we suggest them depending on the trip.
1. BMW 3 Series — the workhorse — $161 per day
Our default recommendation. The 3 Series is the right size for Beverly Hills hotel valet, the right size for the structured parking at Westfield Century City, and the right car for being seen pulling up to a Soho House lunch without anyone making a thing of it. It has the M Sport package, the iDrive system supports CarPlay over Bluetooth, and the rear seats hold a small client easily.
Pick the 3 Series if your trip is meetings, lunches, and a couple of dinners. It is the car that solves the most problems for the most travelers, and it is the one we would book for ourselves if we were in for a week.
2. BMW X7 M Sport — for moving clients — $211 per day
If you are picking up clients from LAX, hosting people for dinner who need to ride in your car, or have any combination of three-plus passengers in luggage, the X7 is the answer. Three rows, captain's chairs in the second, panoramic roof, and the M Sport package keeps it from looking like a soccer-mom hauler. Valet at the Peninsula and the Beverly Hilton handles it without complaint; the parking levels at Saks and Neiman's downtown are tight but manageable.
Pick the X7 if any meeting involves the words "I'll come pick you up."
3. Mercedes CLE Cabriolet — for the closing dinner — $210 per day
A specific use case, but a real one. Closing dinner at the Polo Lounge, a celebratory drink at Sunset Tower, an investor meeting that ended well and has spilled into a 7 p.m. drive to Nobu Malibu — the CLE is the car for those evenings. Top down on Sunset Boulevard at 6:45 p.m. with a client in the right seat is a specific kind of LA experience that closes deals.
For a four-day trip with one capstone evening, we sometimes recommend the 3 Series for days one through three and the CLE for the last night, with a swap delivered to the hotel.
4. Toyota Camry Hybrid — the cost-conscious choice — $121 per day
For a trip that is mostly airport, mostly hotel, mostly Uber-replacement and not a client-impression vehicle, the Camry Hybrid is the honest pick. 51 mpg combined, full hybrid powertrain, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, every safety feature you would want, and a daily rate that is $40 lower than the 3 Series. For a per-diem-conscious traveler doing a five-day trip, the savings cover an entire dinner.
The Camry will not make a partner-track impression in the valet line at the Beverly Wilshire. It will get you to and from your meetings reliably, comfortably, and on a single tank for the week.
